“Those are my flowers” Spongebob Cake Progress

DSCN3151

So I started on the under the sea flowers for the Spongebob Birthday cake today. A lot of Tedious work. 15 of each color,. My daughter on the other hand thought they were “pretty” and that they were “hers”.  Now if only I  could keep her from touching them. I also started the leaves for the top of the pineapple portion. Although I’m not sure if they will be sturdy, hence me making them now to allow them to dry hard, and easily stand up (I hope…) I am preparing for the worst. Considering I’m stacking about 6 little cakes on top of each other for the pineapple and two of those don’t look that great after carving them. My backup plan is to get a dowel or two in order to keep the pineapple from falling.  Everyone keeps asking how or necessarily why I do so much work for a cake? Well, I truly enjoy the results that I get once it is done. It’s a special moment knowing that I made that cake for my daughter. My father used to make my cakes when I was little, so carrying on a tradition is a BIG deal.

If you have any suggestions for me, speak now or forever hold your peace. 🙂

My cakes are in the freezer, Need to get a large cake board (or make one myself), a small bottle of vodka— (no not what you were thinking it was for…) for painting on the cake….Still need to give Spongebob Legs, and Arms…His face will be one of the last things I do….

Hope you enjoy the progress

I promised Cake, We always have cake at any family event.

Cake

No, I did not make this, nor did my family. We had wayy too much food to cook.  Haha Later post for you to peruse. How to cook for at least 75 people. and the extras that show up for the free food. (HA)

page1Thank you for allowing me to share my family with you! They have been the reason I learned to cook and why I still continue to do it even now.  Without family there would be no food, laughter, love and enjoyment.

I am missing a picture of the great greats (kids) I will post it later.

Items You Should Always Have in Your Kitchen #2

Toothpicks

Need I say more, but I suppose I do.  Toothpicks are one of the best inventions, at least to me.

They are useful for many many many things besides getting that spinach out of your teeth. In 1872, Silas Noble and J. P. Cooley patented the first toothpick-manufacturing machine.

They have been around a long time, so obviously they found their uses.

Uses:

Testing Doneness in Baking

Drawing Lines on Pastries, swirling colors together, etc

A Pick for Appetizers and small sized food (So no one passes germs around)

I have used them to Keep plastic wrap from touching something like frosting on a cake

To assist in vegetable or fruit carving as bases, or nails

They are also great gifts for men like my husband who are constantly picking at their teeth (you can buy actual metal toothpicks, in the 17th century they were like jewelery laden with jewels)

To hold something you created in the kitchen together, if it decides it wants to fall apart, and if you are like me. About to flip out and throw the creation on the floor in frustration. Toothpicks come in handy, yes they do.

Mixing icing colors

Cleaning small nooks and crannies on the stove and around the sink. (Gets the grime)

See Many uses, What do you do with toothpicks?

Delicious looking…Soaps?

Yes I was in a store in Bad Windsheim, a town down the road from where I live. They had a wonderful array of cupcakes. Well I should say beautifully made aromatic soaps. They are made to look baked goods. … Continue reading
